Appreciated Stocks & SecuritiesGiving appreciated securities - stocks, bonds, and mutual funds - benefits donors and CDS. In most cases, donors receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the security and do not have to pay capital gains tax on the transfer of securities that have been held for at least a year.
The following instructions will affect a transfer to our account:
Deliver to: Charles Schwab & Co., Inc
Account: Children’s Day School
- The name of the securities being transferred
- The number of shares
- The name of the institution transferring the securities

Once the transfer is complete, we will confirm the transaction and provide a receipt of your gift for your tax files.

Matching GiftsCompanies will often match gifts to CDS –an easy way to make the most of your gift, by doubling or even tripling your donation. All CDS supporters are encouraged to find out if their employers, or those of their friends and families, have matching gift programs. Each company has its own guidelines, but many will match gifts annually. If your employer offers a matching program, your donation can be greatly increased.

Donor-Advised FundsA donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic vehicle through which donors may contribute to their favorite charities. Contributions to a DAF are immediately tax-deductible, and are invested and grow tax-free. After establishing a DAF, you may recommend grants to 501c3 charities like CDS. To initiate a gift, use our address (333 Dolores St, San Francisco, CA 94110) and our Tax ID/EIN: 94-3248631.
Endowment
The CDS endowment supports the long-term stability of the school. Endowments are invested in the market, and a set portion of revenue from the investments supports operating and capital projects, and the remaining revenue is reinvested, and the endowment grows. The goal is to build our endowment to help bolster the long-term financial stability that will allow us to enhance our innovative programs, attract and retain top faculty and staff, and preserve our deep commitment to access and socio-economic diversity.
Planned Giving: Children's Day School Legacy Society
The Children’s Day School Legacy Society recognizes those families and individuals who have made a legacy gift to CDS through a bequest in their will or some other type of planned donation. By including CDS in their estate planning, Legacy Society members ensure a strong and sustainable financial future for the school.
Through the generosity of our families, we are able to craft long-term strategies to improve our programs in the years to come, and planned giving is one of the most helpful ways in which you can provide funding for the future. With thoughtful planning, you can make a meaningful contribution to CDS that may also have tax advantages. Here are some examples of how you can make a planned gift:
- Place CDS in your will or living trust
- Make CDS the beneficiary of a retirement account, such as an IRA
- Make a gift of a life insurance policy
- Make a gift of real estate or other tangible property
