Extended Day Program

Lower School

About the Program

After school teachers provide indoor and outdoor options after class dismissal on an hourly basis after a period of supervised free play. Students must remain in selected activities until program-wide transition periods. Your child may choose from a wide variety of organized, age-appropriate activities.

Daily schedule:
3:00 - 3:15 Dismissal to free play
3:30 - 3:50 Snack and group circle
3:50 - 4:50 Enrichment/Focus hour
4:50 - 6:00 Free play on the yard/Indoor activities

Activity Hour

Activity hour is the way we're envisioning after school activities. Rather than structuring activity around the completion of projects, programming will provide students with the opportunity to drop in to an environment focused on a particular subject and choose to engage at their own pace and level. Students will be able to check out supplies and choose the direction of their own learning, supported by the teacher. Areas of focus will include tinkering/making, fine arts, nature exploration, and physical activity.

Enrichments

Taught by CDS teachers, community teachers, and instructors from accredited local organizations, three sessions of exciting enrichment classes are offered each year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Classes meet for one hour a week after school and cost varies, depending on the nature of the class. Enrichment class are additional (optional) opportunities for structured, hands on learning experiences and carry an additional fee (all enrichments are sliding scale based on tuition level). You can learn more information and sign up for enrichments on this page.
